There’s something pretty special about seeing an idea grow wings 🩷💛💙

Dani first came to Textile Lab as a work experience student from Curtin, and she was an absolute delight from day one. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of mentoring her through the final stages of her graduate collection, printing her artwork onto fabric, and then working together to turn that momentum into the launch of DNLA the Label.

It’s been a real pleasure helping her on this journey. Messages like this are such a lovely reminder of why I do what I do: “Thank you again for your support… I’m so excited for what’s next and to keep building this together… Thank you for helping to make my dreams exist in the world!”

And let me tell you, it takes a village to launch a label. Shout outs to Dani’s mum, boyfriend and classmates for cheering her on and helping pull it all together. And to my own team, Nga, Emily and Mia, who helped make the garments, and Sarina, who came along to the markets with me. It takes talent, teamwork and a whole lot of people willing to believe in the dream before everyone else can see it.

SAMPLE MACHINIST WANTED, come sew beautiful garments with us 🩷💙💛

Textile Lab is looking for a highly skilled, experienced sewing machinist to sew samples and small production runs.

Work options • In our studio in Wandi
• From home (you’ll need an industrial straight stitch machine + an industrial five thread overlocker)

If you love problem solving, clean finishes, and taking pride in quality, we’d love to hear from you. We’re a friendly, down to earth team and we genuinely enjoy working with good people.

Nervous and sweaty on stage 🩷💙💛
I opened my speech with that line and got a good laugh – which helped, because I really was both!
Truth be told, I’ve even been putting off posting this reel because hitting share feels just as nerve-wracking as standing up in front of a room full of people. But here it is – the real, unpolished, slightly shaky me.

Sometimes the scariest part of doing something new is just pressing play.

From canvas to couture 💙🩷💛

We collaborated with artist to transform her vibrant self portrait into a statement outfit for the opening of her exhibition 100 Heritage Houses of Claremont at with .

The project included a dramatic cotton sateen full circle skirt with a train, and a silk satin scarf – both created in our Perth studio. Each piece was digitally adapted, printed, cut and finished with care before being worn by Joanne at her show.

Projects like this are a reminder of how powerful it is when art moves off the wall and into the world – creating wearable works that celebrate both creativity and craft.

NSW just scored a game-changing three-year strategy with the AFC:

If WA doesn’t push for the same, we’ll get left behind.

I got 100 signatures last time on my own — but this has to be a group effort with AFC.

From brushstrokes to fabric 💙🩷💛

This is the second artwork we worked on with artist Susan Hoy, preparing her painting for repeat and printing it on cotton sateen in our Perth studio.

The process began with testing colour and detail, then moved into full-scale production before being exhibited at .

To explore future applications, we also created AI visualisations showing the design as sheer curtains and as a statement table runner – a glimpse into how art can live beyond the gallery and into interiors.

Every collaboration is unique, every outcome personal, and every artwork opens new possibilities when reimagined in fabric.
