Property Sitting / Caretaking / Caretakers
Unbeknownst to us when we set off on our travels, would we venture into the area of taking care of a stranger's property & / or animals.
This wasn't a completely new idea for us, as we had taken on caretakers for our own rural property in Darwin when our varied holidays allowed.
However, being at the other end of the so-called stick & ensuring that someone's animal/s were fed, watered & possibly medicated, cleaned-up after & happy with daily exercise & toy play, pot plants, vegetable gardens, gorgeous garden beds & luscious lawns to tend to & then the property responsibility itself, ensuring power remains available for fridges & freezers, being a presence on the land & checking water & feed for the assortment of stock; cattle, sheep, goats & horses.
Throw in some chooks & an occasional extra 1 or few pets & sometimes it's quite a few hours we spend on a daily basis completing all tasks.
It's something we enjoy though & we do not take it on lightly. Learning about the people, their pets & stock & the land enables us to learn more about an area that we travel to.
What gets farmed in surrounding areas & what grows well in others, is very interesting to us all.
We have made lifelong friendships through this activity & have gained some wonderful memories.
Being there for the birth of a new calf, a litter of puppies or a pregnant horse's mood swings is something in itself. It all has it's aspects of education & emotions.
Here are just a few of "our" animals, that will always be part of our memories ❤️
