Lord Howe Island is an epic little tropical island a 2 hours flight from Sydney. It is the perfect balance between wanting to go somewhere completely new and different from your average getaway with the conveniance of flying domestic.

There are a lot of cool facts about Lord Howe Island, one example, is that through conservation efforts they brought the world’s largest stick insect back from extinction. They were thought to be extinct since 1918, but lo and behold there were 24 found hanging out on the one bush off the side of a cliff!

There are amazing coral reefs to explore and epic day hikes up the mountains, which are the rim of the volcano that once was and the remnants of which now form the island.

This is a destination for those looking to spend time in unique wildlife, on tropical beaches without crowds. If you love the idea of an island where the main transportation is the humble bike, this little gem is for you.

I could drink this view in all day.

It was so lovely to get a call from a recent group leader saying how effortless and seamless their group trip went.

You know how they say when you pass away your life flashes you by?

When the time comes, I fully expect to see this view. It is one of those moments in life I will never forget.

I was in Aspen Switzerland having taken the Gondola lifts right up to the very top of the world, and all I could see in every direction was mountain tops. Words do not seem adequate to describe the incredible awe of standing on top of the world.

Someone leaned in close and said to me, this is a view you keep with you in your soul.

And that has felt true. There were many moments since when life felt hectic or nerve wracking and I would take a mental moment to come back to this view.

If you ask me what my happy place is, this is always one of the places my mind goes too.

Please tell, I'd love to hear what are the places that will live on forever in your soul?

The other day we went for a drive .. and saw some emus on the side of the road.

I feel like the little kid inside me gets so excited to see wildlife like this up close since we moved to the south west surf coast.

Meanwhile the 7 year old and 4 year old in the back seat were only mildly amused. 🤦‍♀️😅

I am constantly saying, "do you know how excited I would've been at your age to be seeing...." And then instantly I am reminded I am not that little kid but rather I've turned into my parents 🤣

We also saw two wedgetail eagles land right in a tree across the road from us then fly above us, so close. They always amaze me how huge they are up close.

It's incredible how much being amoungst nature can make you feel alive again.

Its whale watching time again along the south west surf coast. Last week we headed out twice to see if we could catch a glimpse. The first day was sunny and so lovely to just be there on the beautiful coastline, but we only saw whales decorating the cafe by the lighthouse.

When we got home we did see on the local fb pages people posting amazing photos of whales breaching, tails floating above the waves.

So the next day we went back at the time the whales seem to be the most active. And we saw two pass us by, and it was so exciting and epic to see them swim past.

When we got home, on the local page I watched a video from somone on the same cliffs at the same time as we were there, but just 100 metres away, around the corner and these whales had been jumping out of the water and putting on a show! 🐋🐋

Spending time outdoors, with an epic view always leaves me with a sense of awe and humbles you on how big the world is. It puts so much in perspective.

As it turns out, my newfound perspective and attention to detail just didn't include the 30,000kg whale jumping completely out of the water over to my left. 🐋 🤦‍♀️🤣
