タスマニアはオーストラリアでもっとも南極に近いため
赤いオーロラが見えることでも有名

光害のない、とある田舎町のビーチを訪れましたが、
あいにく雲が多かったし、
そんなうまい具合に赤いオーロラ見えるわけなかった…

でも、うっすら赤いような気もして、
Lightroom持っていたら現像できたのかな（←持ってない）

とはいえ、おびただしい満天の星と天の川は肉眼でもよく見えて感激しました

Tasmania is well-known as one of the best places in the world to witness the southern light(the Aurora Australis) show because Tasmania is located in the southernmost Australia and the closest to Antarctica. Actually the southern lights is red and we can see year-round instead. Unfortunately I couldn't see even I waited for it on the beach with light pollution-free, however I had fun stargazing the milky way and starry sky.

Vineyards, Tasmania, Australia

タスマニアはワインの産地でもあり、あちこちにワイナリーが存在

たまたま通りかかったワイナリーで、
絵画みたいな風景が広がっていて思わず車を止めてしまいました

2枚目はその近くで、強い西日に照らされた異形の木の間から
横筋の光芒が差し込んでいた、何だか面白い風景

This is a beautiful vineyards with wetlands, where I encountered by chance on the way to Hobart from Wineglass Bay. In 2nd photo, a oddly-shaped trees with beam of lights in the evening where I encountered as well near that vineyards.

Green Tunnel, Tasmania, Australia

タスマニア屈指の絶景スポット・フレシネ国立公園の「ワイングラス・ベイ」から帰る途中で見かけた、名もなき緑のトンネル

存在感があって、思わず車を止めてしまいました

Wineglass Bay, Tasmania, Australia

タスマニア屈指の絶景スポット・フレシネ国立公園の「ワイングラス・ベイ」

駐車場から整備された山道を30～40分ほどで展望台にたどり着けます
でも、午前中に来た方がもっと海の色が鮮やかかも

登山道の分岐からワイングラス・ベイのビーチにも出られるのですが、
往復3時間と聞いて止めました～

そして登山口近くにまたしても人慣れしたパディメロン登場

そんなんだから、ロードキルが多いんだよ…
タスマニアはオーストラリア本土よりロードキルが多い気がしました

Wineglass Bay is located in Freycinet National Park of the eastern Tasmania and well-known as one of the most beautiful sites of Tasmaniahas, officially been named one of the World's 50 Best Beaches for 2026, ranking #21 on the planet, according to more than 1000 travel professionals and creators around the globe.
This is viewing from the Wineglass Bay Lookout, about 1 hour return and 1.3 km each way from the gate near the parking lot. I met a couple of Pademelons that are used to humans again!

Wombats, Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, Tasmania, Australia

King Billy Track circuitの帰り路でちょっと迷ってしまい
駐車場まで帰りが遅れたおかげで

ふと見た何でもないただの芝生に野生のウォンバットが二頭もいて
しかも超至近距離で観察できました！

ケガの功名というか、何ともラッキー

超かわいかったけど、黒い点はぜんぶウォンバットの糞

いっぱい踏んでしまったよね…

Luckily I happened to see two wild Wombats in the lawn when I came back to the parking area in the late evening after hiking to King Billy Track circuit. They were so lovely and fluffy. But you see, there are a lot of black round something around them, that's wombat's p**p.

Pademelon, Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, Tasmania, Australia

タスマニアに生息する、
ワラビーよりも小さな有袋類・パディメロン

ずんぐりむっくり、体長は50㎝程度

タスマニはカンガルーやワラビーよりパディメロンが多い感じ

偶然目の前に現れて、近づいても逃げなくて
よく見ると、鼻に何かくっついてる

それに気づいて「ひやぁあ～」みたいになってる（笑）

Pademelons are small marsupials, smalller than kangaroos and wallabies like 50-60cm tall and short, thick, and sparsely haired tails. I guess Pademelons lives more than kangaroos and wallabies in Tasmania. I met one in Cradle Mountain park, he (or she) didn't run away at all even I walked close to him slowly. It was very funny when he found out something on his face.

King Billy Track circuit, Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, Tasmania, Australia

パンフレットによるとクレイドルマウンテンにはわたし好みの苔むす森があるらしく、

場所をビジターセンターの職員さんに尋ねたら、もはや歩いていけない山奥と判明

でも、そこに似ている場所があるわよ、とオススメされた駐車場からもほど近い「King Billy Track circuit」

だんだん雨が降ってきてだいぶ日も暮れかかってきたので結局途中で引き上げましたが、なかなかジブリ的で良かった

I've just taken a road trip around Western Australia and Tasmania between 6th and 20th March, 2026.

This is the green landscape of King Billy Track circuit, one of the short trails of Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, recommended by a staff of the visitor center as a rich-moss site. It's quite easy to approach through the Enchanted walk trail near the visitor center and the parking area. Actually it was getting dark and raining at that time , so I finally gave up to go on a trail on the way and got back to the parking area. Anyway it was bery quite and so beautiful.

クレイドルマウンテン国立公園内にある
タスマニアデビルの保護施設である「デビルズ＠クレイドル」

こちらはオーストラリア固有種のフクロネコ（Easten Quoll）

こちらもオーストラリア大陸では絶滅、タスマニアでのみ生息・保護されているそう

フクロネコも本来夜行性なので通常は巣穴に潜んでますが、餌をちらつかせると、ヒョコヒョコ出てきてくれます

体毛の違うフクロネコがいて
子猫くらいの大きさで、とてもかわいい

The Eastern Quoll (Dasyurus viverrinus）is breeding and preserved in Devils@Cradle, Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. They are a medium-sized, like a kitty, carnivorous marsupial (dasyurid), and one of six extant species of quolls. Endemic to Australia, they occur on the island state of Tasmania.

Eastern quolls are nocturnal, and spend the day resting in dens, although they may also use natural rock crevices or hollow tree trunks. They sometimes go out of the dens and play with them. It's so cute.

Devils@Cradle, Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, Tasmania, Australia

クレイドルマウンテン国立公園内にある
タスマニアデビルの保護施設である「デビルズ＠クレイドル」

タスマニアデビルはタスマニアにしか生息しない固有種で、世界最大の肉食“有袋類”
餌はもちろん肉
こちらではロードキルの動物を与えているそう
（タスマニアはオーストラリア本土よりロードキルの死骸が多い…）

こんなにちいさくてかわいい顔していながら、
その名の通り、鳴き声が動物の断末魔みたいな声でスゴイ

本来夜行性なので、野生ではめったに出会えない動物
なので、こういう施設はとてもありがたい

しかし、ガイドのお姉さんのオージーイングリッシュに全くついていけず、解説ほとんどわからんかった…

Devils@Cradle is stuated in Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, where is the Tasmanian devils, Eastern quolls and Spotted-tail quolls sanctuary breeding and preserved. It's almost impossibel to see the wild Tasmanian devils in the nature, so it's very easy to be able to see them here.
Tasmanian Devils is a carnivorous marsupial of the family Dasyuridae. They are famous as the animals extremely loud and disturbing screech. His face is so cute and adorable but the face eating roadkill animals and screaming scares me a little bit.

Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, Tasmania, Australia

タスマニア北部に位置するクレイドル・マウンテンーセント・クレア湖国立公園
クレイドルマウンテンを含むタスマニアの手つかずの原生域は世界遺産に登録されています

オーストラリアというと乾燥した大地というイメージですが
タスマニアは緑の原生林の多い、どちらかというとニュージーランド的な雰囲気

ギザギザした特徴のある山容がクレイドルマウンテンで
標高そのものは1545mなのでそれほどでもないですが、起伏に富み、初級から本格登山まで楽しめるスポットです

園内はクレーター湖が多く、その代表的なものがこのDove湖

あいにくの天気でどんより小雨で残念でしたが、
せっかくなのでDove湖からウォンバットのいるRonny Creekまで10kmほどハイキングしました

後半の木道の湿原がとても良かった

The Cradle Mountain is situated in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, the Australian state of Tasmania. The mountain looks like jagged peaks with 1,545 metres above sea level and thre are a lot of crater lakes. Dove Lake is one of them and the most popular lake in NP. There are a variety of trails from the begginers to the professional climbers. I went on hike about 10km long from the Dove lake to the Ronny Creek living a lot of wombats.
