One of Tasmania's hidden gems is Woolmers Estate near Longford.

A UNESCO World Heritage-listed convict site, Woolmers offers a fascinating glimpse into Tasmania's colonial history, with beautifully preserved buildings, historic gardens, and one of Australia's most significant collections of heritage roses.

Walking through the estate, it's easy to imagine life in the early days of European settlement, while the peaceful grounds make it a wonderful place to slow down and soak up Tasmania's rich heritage.

Many of our guests are surprised by just how much history can be found in regional Tasmania, and Woolmers is one of those special places that leaves a lasting impression.

One of the highlights of visiting Tasmania is meeting one of our most-loved locals – the wombat! 🐾

These sturdy, slow-moving marsupials are often spotted grazing in the wild around Cradle Mountain, Narawntapu National Park, and other parts of Tasmania's wilderness. Despite their cuddly appearance, wombats are surprisingly strong and can dig extensive burrow systems.

Many visitors are delighted to discover just how common wombat sightings can be in Tasmania, especially in the early morning and late afternoon when they are most active.

If you're exploring Tasmania's national parks, keep an eye out for these iconic animals quietly going about their day. Watching a wild wombat grazing against a backdrop of Tasmania's spectacular scenery is a memory many visitors never forget.

Standing at the edge of the Gordon Dam today… and it never gets old.

At 140 metres high, it’s one of those places that really makes you pause. The sheer scale, the quiet, and the wild southwest stretching out in every direction—it’s something you feel as much as you see.

It’s not just about the dam itself, but the journey out there. Remote, rugged, and a reminder of just how untouched parts of Tasmania still are.

If you ever get the chance, take the drive, take your time, and just soak it in.

A stop at Ashgrove Cheese is always a highlight when travelling through Tasmania’s north.

There’s something special about seeing a working dairy farm and then tasting the cheese just metres from where it’s made. From creamy cheddars to their award-winning varieties, it’s one of those places where you always end up leaving with more than you planned 😄

The setting itself is part of the experience too — green paddocks, fresh country air, and that real connection to local produce that Tasmania does so well.

At eGuide, we love including Ashgrove as part of our tours through the region. It’s a perfect stop to stretch the legs, enjoy something delicious, and give guests a genuine taste of Tasmania.

If you’re heading along the north west or travelling between Launceston and Devonport, it’s well worth a visit.
