🚗⛴️ HEADS UP FOR EV OWNERS & HIRERS — FERRY TRAVEL TO ISLANDS

Planning to take your Electric Vehicle on a ferry to Moreton Island, Tasmania, Kangaroo Island, Magnetic Island or similar? Make sure you notify the ferry company in advance!

Many operators are taking a cautious approach to EVs onboard and will only accept 1 or 2 at a time, positioning them at the bow or stern of the vessel as a safety precaution while underway. ---quick push overboard if it does catch fire maybe heheh! 🔥

Turn up unannounced and you risk being turned away or bumped to the next available EV slot, not ideal when you've got a trip planned!

My family just came back from Kangaroo Island and experienced this firsthand, so consider this your friendly reminder to call ahead and confirm before you board.

To be clear, there have been no battery fire incidents recorded on Australian ferries to my knowledge. This is simply ferry operators being proactive and cautious given the well-documented risks associated with EV battery fires in enclosed spaces.

What an incredible experience 3 days, 140km, from Mareeba to Chillagoe as part of the 2026 Great Wheelbarrow Race!

This iconic event brings together school groups, volunteer organisations and passionate community members, all pushing wheelbarrows and raising funds for some truly worthy causes.

As a proud sponsor this year, we were honoured to support in their fundraising efforts for Ruth's Women's Shelter, an organisation providing vital support to women and children experiencing domestic violence crisis.

But we couldn't let this moment pass without giving a MASSIVE shoutout to the powerhouse behind it all- Karla Lord. 🙌

Karla, you are the true unsung hero of this event. The countless hours of preparation, the rallying of supporters, the tireless fundraising for Ruth's Women's Shelter, none of this happens without you. You give so much of yourself for others, and it never goes unnoticed. You are a beautiful person, inside and out. 💛

And one more proud mum moment I just have to share goes to my beautiful son who joined me on this mission ever so begrudgingly… and then went and absolutely SMASHED IT. 🙌❤️ Watching you push through and give everything you had made this experience even more unforgettable. ⚠️ The Australian Passport is now one of the world's most powerful giving you visa-free access to 182 countries. But it's also the world's most expensive at $422. Make sure yours is working hard for you!

Here's something I remind every single client: check your passport before you start planning your trip, not after. Many countries require your passport to be valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel date and processing new or renewed passports can take weeks.

The Australian Government's Smartraveller website is the go-to resource I always recommend for up-to-date travel advisories, visa requirements and safety information for every destination. Bookmark it!

A few key things to double-check right now:

Passport expiry valid for 6+ months beyond your return date?

Visa requirements does your destination need an eVisa applied for in advance?

Travel advisories check Smartraveller for any current warnings

Travel insurance booked and comprehensive?

Emergency contacts registered with DFAT?

The #1 Destination Australians Are Booking in 2026 Might Surprise You

📊 New data shows Vietnam's Nha Trang has surged 140% in year-on-year searches from Australian travellers making it the single hottest trending destination of 2026.

Move over Bali! According to fresh travel data, Nha Trang in southern Vietnam is the breakout destination of 2026, with a stunning 140% jump in searches. This sun-drenched coastal city boasts a gorgeous palm-lined bay dotted with 19 islands an absolute dream for snorkellers, divers and beach lovers. 🌊

But Vietnam isn't the only one turning heads. Kuala Lumpur came in second (up 95%), with Australians finally seeing it as a destination in its own right, not just a stopover. Palau, Phu Quoc, Greece's Kos, Mallorca and Fiji's Nadi all round out the top ten.

Meanwhile, the classics aren't going anywhere. Japan, Italy, Greece and Canada continue to dominate Australian wish lists, with travellers choosing slower, more immersive experiences over rushing between tick-box sights.
