We found a large piece of timber wedged deep inside Flying Coney’s bilge.

How are we going to get it out?

And why is it there?

Our new video is out today on YouTube.

Cutting, grinding and welding our way through one of the biggest repairs on Flying Coney.

But how could so much of her steel structure disappear in the first place?

Later today, we are finally sharing the beginning of the biggest repair we have tackled on Flying Coney so far.

After a long time preparing for this moment, the damaged frames are cut out and the first new steel goes back into the ship.

This is where the frame repair truly begins.

400,000 views and 7,000 new subscribers! Thank you for the most incredible restart!

After such a long break, we could never have imagined this response to our comeback movie. Thank you to everyone who watched, subscribed, commented and welcomed Flying Coney back.

Later today, the next chapter begins.
In the first episode of our new shipyard series, we haul our 82-foot ship out of the water and pressure-wash the hull after one year in the water.
It marks the beginning of the biggest structural repair we have tackled so far: replacing the damaged frames inside the ship.

We are so happy to have you with us for this next chapter.

Before we continue the story of Flying Coney, we want to take one look back at the journey so far.

This Friday, we’re sharing our complete recap movie. From the day we bought Flying Coney to the point where our previous videos ended.

For everyone who has been with us for years, it is a chance to revisit the journey.

And for everyone who joined more recently, it is the perfect place to begin.

After the recap, the story continues with brand-new episodes.

Join us for the YouTube Premiere this Friday at 6 pm UTC.
We will both be there in the live chat and would love to watch the movie together with you.

Initially we wanted to buy a wooden boat and only accidentally ended up with a riveted steel ship. One lessen we’ve learned in four years is that there’s still enough wood on a steel ship to keep you busy. Scraping, sanding and varnishing and once you’re done it’s already time for another round of sanding and varnishing. But it’s absolutely worth it!

1500kg of concrete gone. Surprisingly it was a straight forward task with no unexpected surprises. It was one of the tasks were you don’t know how much work it is until you’ve started. Many shipyards refused to haul us out for this task. You simply don’t know how long it will take. Two weeks or two months? Well we did it in one week!

One nerv wrecking aspect of this project was that we did it while the boat was sitting in the water. One reason for this was that this way the hull does vibrate less and it’s easier to remove the concrete. We used relatively small jack hammers so we don’t punch through the hull and we always had the possibility for an emergency haul out if we would’ve found water at the other end of the chisel.
